Winner in The Nysea Clifbar 2020 ColdShot Challenge - Empty Wave Category This image was fortunate enough to be take home a first place in a Cold Water winter based surf photographers photo contest over the winter of 2020 that takes place from January through March and only allows entires from cold regions on the east coast and the great lakes. Bloom was taken in the later part of March right on the cusp of winter and spring when one can start to get the desire to see warmer spring colors emerge after a winters chill. The photograph occurred during a sunrise that filled the sky with yellow and orange that got engulfed amongst the curl of the wave. This image was captured using a slower shutter speed that allows for the motion to to be captured and brought out in the details that pull you into the scene. Location: West Palm Beach This photograph was captured on a swim in the beautiful waters in West Palm Beach. The waters around West Palm are so blue and clear that it adds a great element to making a piece of art. Sensation is more of an abstract image that is loaded with unique interest. What makes up the scene that you see is the perspective from under the surface of a breaking wave as the sunlight beams through the turbulent water

Exotic

Location: Hawaii and Ecuador This is an overlay composite image combining two photographs into one piece. The palm tree. photograph is from Hawaii and the surfer is from a photo shoot done in Ecuador.

Poise or that ability to maintain a composed and balanced state, that is what really comes together for me in this image is the feeling of poise. Gleam

Location: Makena Big Beach Park, Maui The sun rises on the south side of the island of Maui casting a Gleam of light onto the ocean's water. Crashing waves break along the shore engulfing the glow from the luminous morning sun. The Pacific Ocean's crystal clear water picks up a shade of blue amongst the reflecting elements of the environment. A beautiful landscape of mountains and trees accent the tropical island that appears amongst the view of the cresting water.

Location: Juno Beach Pier, Juno Beach Florida After a late evening storm cleared just before sunset there is a subtle sky left behind to close out the day. The air had calmed without a hint of wind that brought along a glassy sea. This image was captured while using a 30 second exposure to create a smooth element to the scene.
